Lockboxes

A lockout box holds the keys of every lock on an isolation while each worker adds their own padlock to the outside; nobody can re-energise until every padlock is off.

This collection covers group lockout boxes with a buckle or a window, wall-mountable and large LOTO boxes for big crews, and portable key management boxes. Most used: the LOTO Lockbox with buckle for everyday group lockout, the LOTO Lockbox with buckle and window where the keys inside must stay visible and the Portable Key Management Box for keys that travel with the team. Lockout boxes sit at a lockout station, and their outer padlocks hang from lockout hasps.

FAQ: lockout boxes

What is a group lockout box and when do I need one?

A lockout box holds the keys of the padlocks that isolate a job. The authorised person locks every isolation point, drops those keys in the box, and every worker on the job adds their own padlock to the box. Nobody can retrieve the keys until all padlocks are off. Use one whenever a job has more isolation points than people, or the team changes over shifts. The LOTO Lockbox with buckle is the standard portable box.

Portable or wall-mounted lockout box?

Portable boxes go to the job and back: the LOTO Lockbox with buckle and window shows the keys through a window so a supervisor can count them without opening it. Wall-mounted boxes stay at a control point and suit plants with fixed isolation procedures: the wall-mountable LOTO Lockbox takes up to 12 padlocks on its front. Many sites use a wall box per area and portable boxes for contractors.

How is a key management box different?

A key management box stores many keys on labelled hooks, one per lock or per machine, behind a single door: it organises the keys of a site rather than one job. Some teams use it as a lockout box for long outages, with the outage keys inside and the workers' padlocks on the door. The Portable Key Management Box is portable and takes padlocks on its hasp.
